SAP chief information officer Oliver Bussman recently reported the company has distributed more than 1,000 iPads to its employees. The devices are equipped with a number of applications including SAP data management solutions suite BusinessObjects and corporate email access.
Bussman, who made the announcement through his Twitter account, said the iPads are deployed evenly among the 48,000 people the company employs worldwide. Furthermore, the number is expected to grow substantially as mobility becomes increasingly important to SAP.
Currently, SAP’s newly acquired subsidiary Sybase is working with the company to produce more mobile versions of SAP data management solutions.
Aside from the drive toward complete mobility – in terms of its product line and employees – the iPads will also help the company improve upon its initiative of improving corporate sustainability internally and within other companies. Other moves toward sustainability adopted by SAP in 2010 include the acquisition of TechniData, an environmental solutions vendor.
