SAP recently announced the first step in its company-wide initiative to shift its applications to the cloud, as River, the first SAP data management platform, will soon be available. The application will include a series of lightweight, high-capability extensions to SAP ERP available for use, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
Carbon Impact 5.0, the first application available on the River platform, will be available at some point in July, according to Computerworld. The solution, which helps companies control their carbon output and overall sustainability, is part of SAP’s commitment to improving the green focus of the corporate world. With a number of companies in countless industries using SAP data management solutions, its commitment to sustainability could likely encourage its partners to do the same.
SAP has been working on River for nearly two years and expects a number of sustainability solutions to follow. Sybase recently announced the development of SQL Anywhere, which encourages mobility throughout the organizations using it. With SAP’s acquisition of Sybase nearing completion, it views mobility as another method of sustainability improvement as companies can use less power without wasting capability.
