Opera 10.50 beta 2 was released this week, incorporating numerous minor tweaks, configuration changes, and what CNET describes as
"modest but detectable" improvements to the program’s Javascript engine.
While most of the changes in version 10.50 beta 2 of the popular independent browser were incremental bug fixes, CNET’s Seth Rosenblatt wrote that, though the tests he ran were limited and cursory, "they do provide a snapshot that the new Opera engine is extremely competitive."
Tech blog Download Squad reported that the configuration changes in Opera 10.50 beta 2 were "simply awesome, if you’re a DIY browser tweaker." This could make for improved browser performance on many tasks, including SAP downloads. The blog also noted that only Windows users would be able to take the new Opera version for a test drive at present, but that Linux and Mac users would have the opportunity soon.
The browser speed crown, until the advent of Opera 10.50 beta 2, was generally agreed to be in the hands of Google’s Chrome, which uses a slimmed-down interface and tightly engineered Javascript engine to provide high performance.
