Network security firm Symantec unveiled a cyber crime exhibit at this week’s RSA security conference in San Francisco, intending to bring the risks and vulnerabilities of business IT departments home to the professionals who operate them.
The firm wrote in an informational essay accompanying the exhibit that "the online underworld is constantly shifting. Symantec performed a brief investigation of several online fraud communities to answer this and other questions raised by this quickly evolving breed of cybercriminal." The company emphasized that modern cyber criminals are much better organized than their predecessors – sophisticated, profit-driven online mobsters, rather than basement-dwelling coders.
Rhonda Shantz, Symantec vice president of consumer brand marketing, told CNET that "we want the public to see what the threats look like and how professional these cyber criminals really are." Symantec’s display included a fake storefront offering various malicious software and personal data for sale.
The powerful tools that companies use to organize information, like SAP data management products, can cause significant harm if hackers gain illicit control over them.
